Bad Burden and those crazy boots.

[Bean boots + True Religion cut-offs + Hollywood Trading Co. belt + Rob's J.Crew shirt + T by A Wang tank]

We finally pulled over at one of those places you drive by a hundred times and think, “I want to see that in real life.” I’d like a little diorama of this bridge at my desk—complete with cow and chicken sounds in the background, and trickling water. Serenity in a box.

Rob found it hilarious that I said “hot as Hades” and something about a warm front in my last post. He laughed for about 5 minutes before continuing reading. (He always finds obscure things to be funny.) But it was hot as Hades—again—and after soaking the front of my shirt watching Rob’s cousin’s lacrosse game, I stood out on the field with his youngest cousin while the sky grew ominous and the scoreboard was disassembled. We dragged yellow dandelions along the inside of our forearms to turn the skin yellow and compared the circumferences of our biceps.

Y’all don’t know functionality until you’ve got yourself a pair of Bean Boots.

Idyllic:

I sure am glad that while plaid shirts have peaked, no one’s putting them in the “toss” column of those BAZAAR “Buy, Keep, Store” lists. Even though I found a major discrepancy in a recent issue. They advised you to toss all your nautical bags, but dedicated an entire page to nautical-styled things you should buy to create your best sea-faring look. To be taken with a grain of salt, apparently.

Oh, then we stopped for ice cream on the side of the road, as evidenced by this really attractive photo:

Eating a cone that monstrous triggered some sort of muscle memory from my distant past. Like riding a bike. I can’t remember the last time I ate an ice cream cone, but zillions of DQ soft serves in carpool on the way home from Beaches Episcopal taught me the proper procedure for controlling meltage, and methodical circular motions for preventing drippage. All of a sudden I was going at it, systematically rotating it 15 degrees to the right after each lick—like some sort of fatty ice cream eating pro.

I hope you’re all embracing the season. Git yer Vitamin D on now, y’hear.

wait, wait, wait…so i too used the expression “hot as hades” in reference to this oppressive heat wave and the guy i was with replied with, “is it too soon to laugh at the expression hot as haiti because of the earthquake?”

after a 20-second blank stare; mouth agape, i explained the meaning of my original reference. of which he’d never heard before.

i’m pretty sure i was the only one laughing hysterically. at him.

    true story.

pfffffffhhhahahahaha. How PC of him! It should be noted that Rob’s blackberry always turns texts that say “hahaha” into “Haitians” so we too have debated over whether or not we’re allowed to laugh at that.

I could just look straight at this post and know you were from Virginia. My Dad has about 15 pairs of those LL Bean boots. Those exact ones.

As we were canoeing down the Battenkill with Patty and Chris, he snapped a great photo of us in front of that same barn! Great spot. P.S. Were you a ballerina in a past life? :)

Bean boots are a staple around our house, my husband laughs while I struggle walking across the frozen lake in my old Bean boots while he’s in his serious Sorel’s . Never pictured them on this blog…but you give them a new twist. Guess they are in the same category as topsiders!
As far as soft serve – gotta have it with a cherry dip, holds it all together – plus love chasing all those little red tidbips that fall off….

mmm. I have not heard of this cherry dip that you speak of, but I am very intrigued.

indeed… Bean Boots are another family tradition for us. But they take a back seat to my serious snow boots I got when I moved up here that I don’t know how I’d live without. So, the little rubber chains on the bottom don’t help on solid ice?? ;)

OH MY never heard of a cherry dip … how sad for you. Not sure where in the area you can find one, so now I have a new mission. Let you know what I turn up!

Muckers! Ha Ha Ha. I grew up in those boots riding horses and we called them “muckers” because they were very necessary whilst “mucking” horse manure out of stalls. I have to say though, you rocked this look much better than I ever did. :)

BTW, did you cut your True Religion’s off, or did you buy them as shorts? I have been looking for a lighter, or even a white pair of shorts like those but I can’t find a pair that I like.

I actually got them that way—shopbizzle in the hizzy! they were majorly on sale and only had one size left, 3 sizes up for me, but I belt them and it’s nice because they’re not up my butt. :)

I just started reading your blog! Pretty much hilarious…and very inspiring! I love your laid back style. I also adore the necklace you are wearing in this post…Could you let us know where it is from?? Oh and too funny with the cut offs comment to Robin.

Yay! Thanks so much for the comment—and I’m glad you are entertained. Hilarity would be about the best compliment I could receive, so many thanks. The necklace is actually from Banana Republic ages ago… I found her for about $5 bones and just snapped her in half on my knee about an hour ago—very depressing, but I think I patched her back up.

      stay in touch :)
