Obviously I’m going to gravitate toward anything with a degree of absurd volume. Wearing things that simulate being in bed when I actually have to be elsewhere is ideal. Winter puts the hurt on my caftan collection, though. I liken it to really swollen pregnant women who can’t wear their own jewelry. Until they make elastic/platinum hybrid blends, you can’t fight mother nature.
But caftan lovers can heave a collective sigh of relief. Lindsey Thornburg designs these made-to-order ponchos from Pendleton milled wool and they are insanity! I need 10.
[Left, Harding Blue; Right, Harding Cream, both $985.]
The attached shawl collar works as a hood, which is sheer brilliance. No more walking into restaurants in the winter and unveiling sweaty hat head. [Northern ladies know.]
[Left, Mexican striped, $860; Right, San Miguel, $1080.]
Definitely not in the financial ball park. Anyone with really clever, easy DIY ideas, I’m all ears. It can’t be that complicated… what if I buy this and cut a head hole in it? Or, I could just get this baby:
[Pendleton fringed shawl, $218.]
So the pregnant lady/jewelry comparison might not have been totally fair. They really are going through a lot: physical hardship, honorable burdens, emotional rollercoasters, loving sacrifices… I mean, giving up wine is not easy.

I have a pendelton blanket that my mom made for me, it’s like the size of a twin bed and weighs about 50lbs. … and Shannon is taking a draping class right now, maybe we can hook you up on the cheap.
now I have a weekend project!
I think if I scour the Internet to find fantastic fabric and employ my trusty singer I can come up with something simular. The texture is amazing and the design is beautifully simplistic. If I so get it right… and that is a big IF … I will send pictures and promptly open a etsy site.
YES! I can’t wait!
Oh I love these. The harding blue and cream are definitely insanity. Why must they be $1000? Harrumph.
