Wine Review: 2008 · Beaux Frères Vineyard · Pinot Noir · Willamette Valley, OR

The 2008 Beaux Frères, The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir—a gift from a good friend who trudged to VT for my birthday a couple weekends ago. He told me I didn’t have to open it until I was ready; no expectations beyond seeing it tucked away in wine fridge. But there was a problem: this was a wine I knew we would both thoroughly appreciate, and I believe good wine is best enjoyed in unison. Who wants to dance alone?

So, on the second night of my birthday shenanigans, we made a couple hours out it.

From my tasting notebook:

Rosy and cloudy—offers a handsome unfiltered haze in the glass. Delicate nose of wax and strawberry. Very light, offering notes of lavender soap and river water. Experience anticipates a lengthy, but wispy, classic Pinot Noir finish and reality delivers. The fruit is positioned beautifully with naturally sweet flavor qualities, while the mouth feel and secondary flavors is/are decidedly clean and lean.

Well-integrated tannins. Hints chalk and and white chocolate, ginger and soy. Young and solidly harmonized. If you fell in love cutting your teeth on the 2007 Willamette Valley vintage, as I did, 2008 has a way of being overwhelmingly accessible and indulgent in comparison. This was a special treat. Not much more to say.

You will have to go ahead and look up the price on your own, that would be rude of me as it was a gift!

Enjoy!
