Two points of interest on the C+C blog, from our vantage point, uncovered over dinner on Friday night: 1., this was never intended to be a blog that actually had photographs in it, gasp! and 2., when it comes to comments, on our blog, quality definitely wins out over quantity, and we like it that way.
And it was through a comment that we first met Taylor, a fellow blogger, an extraordinarily whip-smart, hilarious writer, and wine-loving friend who we got to meet for the first time on Friday. Taylor reached out to me for a Q&A once and, ever since, has been among the only 3 blogs I visit on a daily basis. I’d been waiting for an opportunity to scoot east and meet her for awhile. She’s even more delightful in person—we’re still smiling.
As dribs and drabs of conversation came back to me on Saturday (as they tend to do, when you’re hopped up on that much giggle-inducing adrenaline and, well, wine), I wasn’t shocked at all that the laughs were as gut-busting as they were, the cat talk as esoteric, and the hugs as big and heartfelt. This girl can never live more than 2 hours away from me; I won’t allow it.
On T’s recommendation, we hit up Tico for some pant-wettingly good tapas, sangria, caiprihinas, and a bottle of Pinot that suited the weather just fine. From there, we meandered down the shimmering sidewalks to Newbury street in search of some sweets. Sweets in our case meant two sky-high desserts and an entire other bottle of wine. Wee!
Tico delights:
[Crispy fried chicken with fennel slaw & spicy buttermilk dressing]
[Quail with mango and aji amarillo.]
I’ll let Rob take over from here.
From my tasting notebook:
Opens silk ribbon smooth with fine grain textures and aromas of soft sweet berries. Delegates serious raspberry and strawberry fruit on the palate with a backdrop of fennel, mint, and chalk. Artfully spicy with a complex, edgy finish that was keenly acidic with a stony earthiness.
['Hometown' is an early bottling of Santa Barbara Pinot Noir that showcases the delicious fruit of young Pinot, and the balance and seduction of the 2008 vintage. A three valley blend with grapes sourced from the vineyards near Los Alamos, Santa Maria, and Sta. Rita Hills. Made at the ultra-modern Terravant Wine Company in Buellton.]
Every single time we meet someone in person who reads our blog, we’re nothing shy of smitten. It’s sort of this constant reaffirmation that we’re doing something from our hearts; something that matters to us, because it’s bringing incredible people into our lives.
This little blog—it never ceases to blow our minds.
Happy Easter, peeps!

you are far too kind my friends! y’all are just the coolest, friendliest, most awesomely hilarious people i’ve ever met. i feel bad for all the people that read C+C that don’t get to hang with you.
i’m still salivating over the hitching post and chuckling my way through memories of the evening. can we do that every night?
napa, DC, oregon, richmond, miami…where will we meet next?
I am so excited to see you two (or in this case three) in Boston! Hopefully you’ll return soon and give us another good recommendation. For now, Tico is on my to-do list next time I’m in Boston.
Something about this just really choked me up. I loved reading both your account and Taylor’s – so genuine and fun…and you said caipirinha and sangria. And Carey is wearing a pair of boots I ordered the other day. Come to California! I’ll send the boots back…hehe
xo,
